Dear colleagues,
[Please circulate / apologies for cross-posting]
Here is the most recent update on the tenth European Meeting on Ancient
Ceramics (EMAC 09), organised jointly by the UCL Institute of Archaeology
and the British Museum, which will take place in London, from 10-13
September 2009.
PROVISIONAL PROGRAMME ONLINE
The provisional programme is now available online. See: www.ucl.ac.uk/EMAC09
The programme includes nearly one hundred presentations and posters on a
very wide range of topics by scholars from across the world, including
presentations by our keynote speakers: Ian Freestone, Clive Orton, Hector
Neff, Venetia Porter and Prudence Rice.
PUBLIC LECTURE
Wedgwood Ltd., the pottery company established by Josiah Wedgwood in 1759,
celebrates its 250th anniversary in 2009. A public lecture by Gaye
Blake-Roberts curator of the Wedgwood Museum, is scheduled for September
11th.
CONFERENCE DINNER AND RECEPTIONS
Do not miss your chance to register for the conference dinner, which will
take place at the prestigious British Academy, situated at the heart of
London, a short walk from Trafalgar Square and Buckingham Palace. The formal
seated conference dinner will be held on the first floor in rooms of the
historic building, which overlook the Mall and other London landmarks, such
as the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey.
In addition, all delegates will be invited to a welcome reception at the UCL
Institute of Archaeology in the evening before the conference starts (9th
September), as well as to another reception at the Islamic Gallery of the
British Museum.
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The main focus of EMAC is the scientific study and archaeological
interpretation of ancient ceramics. Bringing together established scholars
and young researchers from a wide range of academic backgrounds, EMAC
stimulates an international and cross faculty exchange of ideas and
approaches.
The tenth anniversary EMAC will keep the previous themes that give it its
unique interest. In addition, we are incorporating some innovations such as
special sessions on "From Craft to Science" and Islamic Ceramics, as well
as a more explicitly worldwide coverage (including non-European topics and
researchers)
