Tue Mar 30 08:21:45 MDT 2010

UNIVERSITY OF EAST ANGLIA - SCHOOL OF CHEMISTRY
CENTRE FOR FORENSIC PROVENANCING

Forensic Lecturer • Ref: ATR891

The Centre for Forensic Provenancing (CFP) aims to combine different complementary analytical strategies to determine the geographical origins of materials and commodities. At present, research at the Centre focuses on the provenancing of soils, food authentication and the provenancing of modern humans and archaeological remains. Our goal is to understand the bio-geo-chemical interactions and genetic diversity of these components in their ecological context. This understanding will enable us to produce spatial geographical information systems that can assist with provenancing and assess the forensic significance of geographical profiles in casework. The CFP runs a trace element and heavy isotope facility and a new aDNA laboratory. Light isotope facilities are available at the School of Environmental Sciences at UEA.

The Lecturer will work within the multi-disciplinary team to strengthen the skills-base of the CFP. He or she will teach at all levels, from undergraduate introductory forensic chemistry up to Masters’ level topics in his or her area of expertise. The postholder will also develop his or her own research portfolio. You must have a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant science subject and be able to fulfil all essential elements of the person specification. The ideal candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following fields; forensic or ancient DNA analysis, isotope-geochemistry, isotope-ecology, science based archaeology, another relevant field. The post is available initially from 1 August 2010 for a fixed-term period until 31 July 2015.

Questions related to the vacancy can be addressed to Dr Jurian Hoogewerff (e-mail: J.Hoogewerff at uea.ac.uk).
